ACLU
Branding, Animation
I’m creating an ongoing series of videos for the ACLU.
The ACLU came to me with a goal of informing Americans about their constitutional rights. The challenge was to take important laws, explain them, and make it engaging for social. The ACLU wants as many people as possible to see and understand what they are legally allowed to do whether they are American citizens or not. As a result, I created Spanish and English vertical videos for TikTok and Instagram, as well as evergreen 16x9 videos for the ACLU website.
ACLU Colors
I made sure to recolor objects in one of the ACLU’s main colors, blue and red, taking advantage of their patriotic and very recognizable branding.
I used the lighter side of the ACLU color palette to create a backdrop for stronger colored animated objects. I also used paint brush transitions and subtle chalk texture to give the videos an educational feel. I was inspired by the opening line about local school boards, and figured why not take it back to the classroom.
Bipartisan and Diverse
The ACLU has a staunchly bipartisan stance, so it was important that the characters represent all Americans.
Since we are in a deeply polarized time, I made sure to represent diversity carefully. I created cut outs of different hair styles and clothing pieces to create characters without the distraction of skin-tone. I also made sure to add modest clothing and a head wrap as a nod to different religions.
